The free movement of safe and healthy foodstuffs is an essential aspect and contributes significantly to the health and well-being of consumers. In order to achieve a high level of health protection, labeling makes it possible to provide information to consumers so that they can make healthier food choices, adapted to their needs, allowing them to make informed eating decisions. Food labeling in the European Union:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In December 2014, Regulation (EU) No. 1169\/2011 came into force, on the provision of information to consumers about food. This Regulation establishes common definitions, principles, requirements and procedures in order to create a clear framework and a common basis for EU and national food information measures. It also encourages a clearer and more harmonized presentation of all the requirements that a label must comply with so that it circulates in the EU correctly, legally and provides essential information to the consumer, such as, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ingredients of the product;<\/p>\n\n\n\n List of allergens;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nutritional information;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Validity of products;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Country of origin or place of provenance;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Net quantity;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Manufacturing or production method;<\/p>\n\n\n\n Etc.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Who it applies to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It applies to food business operators at all stages of the food chain, whenever their activities involve providing information about foodstuffs to the consumer, and applies to all foodstuffs destined for the final consumer.
